Phoneography takes several steps forward...

Whilst trying to keep up to date I with CES updates for the Photography world, it seems that one of the major sections for development has been the world of mobile phone photography, often referred to as Phoneography.

With apps for iPhone such as ProCamera allowing users to expose the detail captured by the sensor, albeit a small sensor the app can produce large, uncompressed TIFF files. Samsung also took steps forward last year with the Galaxy Zoom, the first phone to have a large optical zoom and the list goes on to include the Nokia's 42mp phone and so on and so forth.

However what has excited me most for a long time is the new CM1 which may well be enough to tempt me away from the iPhone 6 later this year when my contract is due for renewal.

So what is so good about  the CM1?

It features a 28mm, f/2.8 Leica lens, finished with a manual ring to adjust aperture, ISO, focus and shutter speed

The CM1 has a mechanical shutter and offers DSLR-style shutter priority, aperture priority and manual exposure modes too.

Oh and not to forget a 1" sensor which will also record 4K video at 15 frames per second (fps) or 1920 x 1080 video at 30fps.

I am hoping to be able to get a hands on with a CM1 before making the decision. If I can photos will follow.

And finally another small item which I believe will be popular for both keen photographers wanting to play around and people wanting better selfies...

Lenovo's Vibe Xtension Selfie Flash "for illuminating your mobile self portraits."
The small device plugs into your phone’s audio jack and uses eight diffused LEDs to shed light on you(and your friends if you like). Lenovo says the $30 flash is good for 100 flashes per charge and that it will offer 100 percent sync with your phone.
