Twitpic.com in recent months have changed their "Terms" to give them the right to reproduce and sell any image uploaded to site.
"You retain all ownership rights to Content uploaded to Twitpic. However, by submitting Content to Twitpic, you hereby grant Twitpic a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Content in connection with the Service and Twitpic's (and its successors' and affiliates') business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels."
This combined with reports from the Metro Newspaper:
As quoted from the Metro on Saturday (05/14/2011), Twitpic also signed an agreement with WENN news agency which has exclusive rights to distribute Twitpic’s user’s photos. Especially photos that were posted by celebrities...
Meaning if you get to have a photo with your favourite celeb or work as a photographer/designer it would be advisable for you to abandon Twitpic now and move over to another image host such as Yfrog where users retain all rights to there images and where a
3rd party company are interested in your content the information will be forwarded to you:
See Terms:
ImageShack will not sell or distribute your content to third parties or affiliates without your permission. Third parties may exercise the following options regarding your content:
Third parties may hyperlink to the page that displays your content on the ImageShack Network without modification and with proper attribution to you.
Third parties may request permission to use your content by contacting you directly.
All requests for permission regarding your content usage directed at ImageShack will be forwarded to you. All uploaded content is copyrighted to its respective owners. ImageShack directs full legal responsibility of said content to their respective owners. All content generated by ImageShack is copyrighted by ImageShack. The other alternative for image hosting on twitter or another blog is to use a blog such as Tumblr where your image Posts are directly posted to your Twitter account in the same way Twitpic did.
