My Canon EOS 7D....Is waiting for a plane now

Well I've just checked my messages and this:

5 Processed at HONG KONG - HONG KONG
4 Arrived at Sort Facility HONG KONG - HONG KONG
3 Departed Facility in HONG KONG - HONG KONG
2 Processed at HONG KONG - HONG KONG
1 Shipment picked up

The image above was one released by Canon to show the EOS 7D in the design and development stages. I've seen the 7D plenty of times and read plenty of reviews from many sources...Some of which are listed below...I will add my own once I've had a real chance to play and test it.

Verdict

The Canon EOS 7D offers awesome continuous-shooting speeds, an excellent HD movie mode with full manual controls, class-leading resolution, excellent high-ISO performance, and an all-metal, weather-sealed body. It's got a couple of glitches, but it's a corking camera

RyanKelly:

Good: Great picture and video quality, Build Quality is superb, Autofocusing, Great low-light performance at high ISO, Battery Life

Bad: No dual CF slots, No 1D-level weather sealing, Incandescent WB preset still not close enough

Comment: I've had this camera for a month now after having the 30D for the past 3 years and using a 5DMk2 for a few months. This camera is a perfect blend of the x0D series and xD series of cameras. If it were a full frame camera, it would definitely be a pro grade camera.

My thoughts:

Whilst I agree mostly with this, I think putting the camera down due to not having the same weather sealing as the 1D series is an unfair judgment considering the price and specification difference. However the dual card slot would of been fantastic and will most likely make its debute when Canon update the camera as at present there is little else that could be improved at the present time. Lastly the full frame "issue" whilst if you are using the camera always in low light or for a fashion camera and nothing else a full frame camera is ideal. When using the camera for a more varied set of uses e.g. sports, nature or event photography where the 1.6x crop factor on the APS-C size sensor will give an advantage as it gives the benefit of a longer lens.

Big-sensored bruiser with HD video and pro features hurls the gauntlet down to Nikon
With the EOS 7D, Canon is pulling out all the stops to appeal to keen amateur and semi-pro photographers. In a nutshell – or rather, a tough magnesium alloy shell – the 7D offers an 18.1-megapixel sensor, speedy 8fps performance, 19-point autofocus and full HD video recording.

The EOS 7D sits between Canon’s mid-range EOS50D/60D, and the more pro-spec EOS 5D Mark II – the latter having a full-frame (35mm size) sensor as opposed to the EOS 7D’s smaller, APS-C sized device.

WE LOVE
Quality sensor and image processing
Full HD video recording
Tons of advanced controls

WE HATE
AF adjustment can be fiddly
Idiosyncratic white balance indoors
Slightly soft JPEGs

WE SAY
The EOS 7D is a convincing performer that makes the Nikon D300s look staid. With prices still falling, it's a fantastic buy for keen amateurs and semi pros who don't need to go full-frame.

Our Rating: *****
